Heat-Resistant Engineering Plastic

When a part must hold its strength and dimensions above 150 °C, standard engineering plastics run out of headroom. High-heat sourcing is really about building a heat ladder: match the grade to your continuous service temperature, mechanical load and compliance needs ― and confirm the HDT was measured at the test load that resembles your application.

Heat-Resistant Engineering Plastic

What to Check Before Sourcing High-Heat Resin

  1. HDT at 1.8 MPa vs. 0.45 MPa ― always compare at the same test condition.
  2. Continuous-use temperature, not just peak or short-term tolerance.
  3. Whether flame retardancy is also required (heat + fire gates often come together).
  4. Glass-fiber content: reinforcement lifts both stiffness and HDT.
  5. Cost ladder: reinforced nylon → reinforced PET → PEEK, with price rising steeply at the top.

Selection Logic in 30 Seconds

– 150‒220 °C continuous → glass-reinforced nylon (PA6/PA66 GF) or reinforced PET.

– Heat + flame together → FR reinforced PET (V-0 with high HDT).

– Above ~220 °C continuous or extreme chemical exposure → PEEK.

– Electrical insulation at temperature → FR reinforced PA66 or PEEK depending on temperature.

FAQ

Q1: What is the practical continuous-use limit of PEEK?

A1: PEEK serves demanding high-temperature applications ― full data and molding parameters are in our VICTREX 450G guide (news section).

Q2: Do GF grades hold HDT in thin walls?

A2: HDT is measured at standard specimen thickness; very thin walls run hotter ― confirm your wall thickness with our engineers.

Q3: Grade not listed below?

A3: Our high-heat range is updated continuously ― send temperature, load and standard.
