PVC Resin for Wire & Cable Insulation
Wire and cable is one of the largest downstream markets for fexible PVC. Cable insulation and sheaths are produced by compounding a high-molecular-weight suspension PVC base resin with plasticizers, stabilizers and fllers until the formulation meets the electrical, fame and fexibility targets of the applicable cable standard. The base resin decides the ceiling for strength, insulation and heat performance —which is why grade selection starts before compounding.
What to Check Before Sourcing Cable-Grade PVC
- Molecular weight (viscosity number): higher molecular weight = stronger, tougher insulation.
- Plasticizer absorption: governs compounding ease and formulation economics.
- Residual vinyl chloride monomer —critical if downstream compliance matters.
- Electrical insulation and self-extinguishing characteristics of the base resin.
- Remember: the resin is the base —fnal insulation is a compounded product, so request a batch COA for lotto-lot consistency.

A1: No —it must frst be formulated with plasticizers and stabilizers. We supply the verifed base resin with batch COA for your compounder.
Q2: Is this resin food or medical grade?
A2: The base resin has low residual VCM, but food/medical compliance depends on your additives and end-product certifcation —verify against FDA 21 CFR / EU 10/2011 .
